...at USC film school on the very first day of orientation. Kassie doesn't remember it, but John does, recalling that he spent half the afternoon looking at Kassie instead of their tour guide. Freshman year dictated different classes and groups of friends and the year went by without their paths crossing again, but that changed one day in January of sophomore year when Kassie opened a hallway door to find John waiting outside of what would be their 12 person screenwriting class. Being the lovely, outgoing girl she is, she walked right up and engaged him, only to be rebuffed with some sort of short, gruff answer - all John could muster through his nerves. Months passed of their seeing each other once a week in class, and finally John found the fortitude to ask Kassie out on a date. She hesitantly agreed, they met at a party later that night and throughout the last 10+ years - despite being cities apart, countries apart and even just apart - they have been virtually inseparable.
...Kassie was starting to wonder if John would ever ask. Having previously intimated that he would pop the question in 2014, as Thanksgiving came and went, Kassie wasn't sure whether to be disappointed or angry while they spent time together on the Sunday of that holiday weekend. Later that evening she begrudgingly agreed to meet some friends for dinner at Dominick's, their favorite neighborhood restaurant. As they walked through a light rain, almost everything John said made her bristle, until, out of nowhere, he pulled her into the alley adjacent to the restaurant, expressed his undying love for her and got down on one knee. She couldn't believe it...and also couldn't believe he'd proposed in an alley!
...as she walked into Dominick's - buzzing with too many feelings to articulate - that 35 of those whom they both held dearest would be waiting to surprise them inside the restaurant! Her reaction was priceless, laughter rolled, tears and champagne flowed and it was easily the happiest night of their lives. Until September 19th of course...
Thanks, Gabe! We love you!
